ANKARA (AA) - Philippines' President Rodrigo Duterte on Saturday announced his retirement from politics when his term ends.
"Today, I announce my retirement from politics," he said, accompanying Senator Christopher “Bong” Go, Duterte’s aide in a program of the filing of certificates of candidacy for the 2022 Philippines elections.
Also, he abandoned his bid to seek the vice presidency in next year's elections and announced that he will quit politics when his term ends, he said.
The country limits the presidency to a six-year term, while the vice president is elected separately.
