ISTANBUL (AA) - The Philippines and the European Union agreed Monday to initiate a security and defense dialogue aimed at addressing emerging global threats, including cyberattacks, foreign interference, and disinformation.
The agreement was reached during a meeting between Philippine Foreign Affairs Secretary Enrique Manalo and EU foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas in Makati in the capital Manila, according to the state-run Philippines News Agency.
“As like-minded partners committed to a rules-based international order, we hope that through the security and defense dialogue, we will remain proactive and united in addressing emerging security threats and challenges that transcend borders,” said Manalo.
Kallas emphasized the importance of the partnership, noting that the dialogue “will allow exchange of expertise and explore possible joint initiatives on security and defense that contribute to the regional as well as global security.”
No specific date was announced for when the dialogue will officially commence.
