DUHOK, Iraq (AA) – The PKK terror group’s presence in northern Iraq is hampering education in the region, a local official said on Saturday.
Omar Ali Taha, the provincial head of education in Duhok, told Anadolu Agency that some 25,000 students who reside in camps in the region cannot go back to their schools in Mosul’s Sinjar district because of the security threat posed by the terrorist organization.
They have to stay in dorms in Duhok to take their exams due to security concerns, Taha further said.
Last month, Duhok Governor Ali Tatar said the PKK prevents the construction of many projects in the region.
