PKK/PYD suspect remanded in custody in southern Turkey

Suspect, who is a Turkish national, was held when he tried to cross illegally into Turkey from northern Syria

KILIS, Turkey (AA) - A PKK/PYD terror group suspected member was remanded in custody in southern Kilis province on Tuesday, according to a gendarme source.

The suspect, who is a Turkish national suspect, was identified only by his initials K.D..

He was arrested last Thursday in the province while trying to cross illegally into Turkey from northern Syria, the source, who spoke on condition of anonymity due to restrictions on talking to media, said.

PKK/PYD is considered by Ankara as the Syrian offshoot of the PKK terror organization that has waged a more than 30-year war against the Turkish state.

The PKK is listed as a terrorist organization by Turkey, the U.S. and the EU.
