TEHRAN (AA) - Police in Tehran on Thursday dispersed a demonstration for women’s rights -- timed to coincide with International Women’s Day -- and detained a journalist, according to local media reports.

The Iran Wire news website reported that police had dispersed a group of women who had planned to demonstrate outside Iran’s Labor Ministry.

According to the website, police also detained Ali Salim, a prominent journalist for Shargh, an Iranian pro-reformist newspaper.

The newspaper later confirmed Salim’s arrest via social media.
