Polish athlete sells her Olympic medal for infant's heart surgery

Maria Andrejczyk raises over $128,000 by auctioning off brand-new silver medal, won on Aug. 6 for women's javelin throw at Tokyo 2020

ANKARA (AA) - A Polish 2020 Olympic medal winner has auctioned off her brand-new silver medal to pay for heart surgery for an infant.

On Instagram, Maria Andrejczyk said that she had collected over half a million zlotys ($128,380) for the ailing infant in cooperation with a local convenience store brand.

It was only weeks ago, on Aug. 6, that 25-year-old Andrejczyk won a silver medal for her 64.61-meter women's javelin throw in the Tokyo Games.
