ISTANBUL (AA) – Russian President Vladimir Putin said a revised 28-point proposal drafted by the United States “could be used as the basis” for a settlement to the Ukraine war, adding that Moscow remains open to negotiations while also being “satisfied” with the current front-line gains.
Speaking at a meeting of the Russian Security Council, Putin said the American document — updated after the recent Alaska summit — contains elements that Russia is willing to discuss.
“I believe that it can be used as the basis for a final peace settlement,” he said, referring to the US proposal, as quoted by the state-run Tass news agency.
He claimed Moscow had already signaled readiness to show “the flexibility requested by Washington” during the Anchorage discussions, despite what he described as unresolved issues.
“The main goal of the meeting in Alaska was to confirm that, despite certain difficult issues, we nonetheless agree with these proposals and are prepared to demonstrate the proposed flexibility,” Putin said.
At the same time, Putin asserted that Russia is comfortable with developments on the battlefield, saying Kyiv’s refusal to engage in talks is contributing to further advances by Russian forces.
