ISTANBUL (AA) – Qatari Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani and US President Donald Trump discussed international efforts to reduce escalation and strengthen regional security during a phone call, Qatar’s Amiri Diwan said in a statement on Wednesday.
The two leaders exchanged views on the current developments in the region and efforts aimed at de-escalation and promoting regional security and stability, the statement said.
Both leaders stressed “the importance of continued coordination and consultation on issues of mutual interest” and reaffirmed their support for diplomatic efforts to address crises through dialogue and peaceful means, it added.
Tamim and Trump also reviewed strategic ties between the two countries and explored ways to “enhance cooperation across various sectors,” the statement said.
The call came as Iran and the US are currently preparing for the next round of nuclear negotiations after the first round was held in Muscat on Friday under Omani mediation.
