DOHA, Qatar (AA) - Qatar’s Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani received a phone call Sunday from Syrian President Ahmed al-Sharaa.
The two leaders discussed relations between their countries and reviewed the latest developments in Syria.
They also explored ways to strengthen ties in various fields, according to a statement published by Qatar News Agency (QNA).
The statement also noted that they addressed key regional and international issues of mutual interest.
Bashar al-Assad, Syria’s leader for nearly 25 years, fled to Russia on Dec. 8, 2024, ending the Baath Party regime, which had been in power since 1963.
Ahmed al-Sharaa, who led opposition forces in ousting Assad, was declared Syria’s president on Jan. 29.
