ISTANBUL (AA) - Qatari Prime Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani held talks in Doha on Sunday with Syrian Foreign Minister Asaad al-Shaibani to discuss bilateral relations and the situation in Syria.
Discussions dwelt on ways to strengthen bilateral relations, topics of mutual interest, and the recent developments in Syria, the Qatari Foreign Ministry said in a statement.
Sheikh Mohammed reiterated Doha’s support for “Syria's unity, sovereignty, and independence to achieve the aspirations of its brotherly people for a dignified life and the building of a state of institutions and law.”
Bashar al-Assad, Syria’s leader for nearly 25 years, fled to Russia last December, ending the Ba'ath Party regime, which had been in power since 1963. A new transitional administration was formed by President Ahmad al-Sharaa in January.
