ATHENS (AA) — Railway and airport ground service workers in Italy have called a strike, local media reported on Sunday.

A 24-hour railway strike called by major trade unions in the sector will begin on Thursday and will include speed trains between major cities as well as intercity and regional trains, the state-run ANSA news agency reported.

On Saturday, workers in airport ground services across the country will also go on an eight-hour strike, demanding a collective agreement, it added.

The transportation sector and travelers are expected to be significantly affected by the strikes, scheduled as a heatwave is expected to hit the country, the agency noted.
