Retail sales in UK up 0.4% in March

Clothing, outdoor retailers see boosted sales thanks to good weather

ISTANBUL (AA) - Retail sales volume in the UK rose 0.4% in March on a monthly basis, the Office for National Statistics (ONS) said on Friday.

Clothing and outdoor retailers reported that good weather boosted sales and these increases were partly offset by falls in supermarket sales, the statistics department said.

Sales volumes also rose by 1.6% in the first quarter, compared with last quarter of 2024; and by 1.7% when compared with the first quarter of 2024.

"More broadly, three months of rising volumes led to a 1.6% rise across the three months to March 2025, when compared with the three months to December 2024," the office said. "This was the largest three-monthly rise since July 2021."
