ISTANBUL (AA) - Russia and Tajikistan held inter-ministerial consultations Monday in Moscow on cooperation within the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) and the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO), according to the Russian Foreign Ministry.
The talks were attended by Mikhail Agasandyan, director of the First CIS Department at Russia's Foreign Ministry, and Sharaf Rahimi, the head of the CIS Department at Tajikistan’s Foreign Ministry.
The two sides reviewed cooperation in 2025 and exchanged views on the agenda of the two organizations, with a special focus on Tajikistan’s current CIS chairmanship.
Particular attention was given to preparations for the upcoming CIS summit in Dushanbe on Oct. 10 and the CSTO Collective Security Council session scheduled for Nov. 27-28 in Bishkek.
The CIS, established in 1991, brings together Russia and several former Soviet republics, while the CSTO is a Moscow-led military alliance formed in 2002 which originated from the Collective Security Treaty signed in 1992.
