MOSCOW (AA) - Russia and Ukraine are discussing introducing the Austrian or Swedish model of a demilitarized state in Ukraine at the request of the Ukrainian delegation during the peace talks, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said on Wednesday.
"This option, which is really being discussed now, can be considered as a certain compromise," Peskov said at a daily briefing in Moscow.
Asked how the situation in Ukraine can be improved, Peskov said "through achieving an agreement between Russia and Ukraine."
Earlier, Vladimir Medinsky, the head of the Russian delegation at the peace talks with Ukraine, said Kyiv proposed to implement the Austrian or Swedish model of a demilitarized state in Ukraine.
The Russia-Ukraine war, which started on Feb. 24, has drawn international condemnation, led to financial restrictions on Moscow, and spurred an exodus of global firms from Russia.
At least 691 civilians have been killed and 1,143 injured in Ukraine since the beginning of the war, according to the UN, while noting that conditions on the ground make it difficult to verify the true number.
Over 3 million people have also fled to neighboring countries, said the UN refugee agency.
