Russian deputy foreign minister, UN envoy discuss Syrian settlement, humanitarian aid

Deputy Foreign Minister Vershinin, UN envoy Pedersen also discuss efforts to advance an inclusive political settlement led and implemented by Syrians with UN support

ISTANBUL (AA) - Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergey Vershinin held consultations with UN Special Envoy for Syria Geir Pedersen on a wide range of issues related to Syria, including the political process and humanitarian assistance, the Russian Foreign Ministry said Wednesday.

Talks covered the situation on the ground, the role of international humanitarian aid and efforts to advance an inclusive political settlement led and implemented by Syrians with UN support, in line with UN Security Council Resolution 2254 to end the war, it said.

Discussions also addressed developments in Syria at the Security Council and General Assembly, emphasizing the importance of maintaining international consensus on aspects of the Syrian settlement.
