LONDON (AA) - A 40-year-old Russian man was arrested at a London airport on suspicion of spying for Russia, local media reported.
The suspect was detained by the Metropolitan Police at Gatwick Airport on Monday evening.
The Sun newspaper reported that the man was about to get onboard an international flight and he is accused of spying in the UK for Russia.
"We can confirm that officers from the Met's Counter Terrorism Command arrested a man in his 40s at Gatwick Airport on Monday 13 June on suspicion of offences under Section One of the Official Secrets Act 1911,” a statement from the police force said.
"He has been taken to a London police station, where he currently remains in police custody,” it said, adding that the “inquiries continue.”
