Russian, UN diplomats discuss problems between Belgrade and Pristina

MOSCOW (AA) - Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergey Vershinin and head of the UN interim administration mision in Kosovo Zahir Tanin met in Moscow on Friday.

The diplomats discussed the issues of the Kosovar settlement and relations between Belgrade and Pristina, the Russian Foreign Ministry said in a statement released after the meeting.

"The Russian side reaffirmed the importance of strict compliance with the provisions of UN Security Council resolution 1244, which remains in full force and remains a mandatory international legal framework for Kosovo settlement," the statement said.

The sides also agreed that the UN interim administration mission in Kosovo plays an important role in providing stability in the region.
