ANKARA (AA) - The war on Ukraine initiated by Russia by violating international law is absolutely unacceptable, a Turkish opposition party leader said on Tuesday.

"The military intervention [on Ukraine] initiated by Russia by violating international law is absolutely unacceptable. The parties should reopen the ways of negotiation and dialogue," Pervin Buldan, the co-chairwoman of Peoples' Democratic Party (HDP), told her party's parliamentary group.

Buldan called on the UN and international communities to urgently get into declaring a cease-fire between Russia and Ukraine.

"International institutions must also take responsibility for the prevention of humanitarian tragedies [in Ukraine]," she added.

Since Russia's war on Ukraine began last Thursday – including Russian troops coming across the border from neighboring Belarus – it has been met by outrage from the international community, with the EU, UK, and US implementing a range of economic sanctions on Russia.

So far, at least 136 civilians, including 13 children, have been killed, and 400 others, including 26 children, were injured in Ukraine, according to UN figures.

Around 660,000 people have fled Ukraine to neighboring countries, the UN Refugee Agency said.
