Several injured as explosion hit religious place in Pakistani capital Islamabad

Explosion reported at Imambargah in Shehzad Town area of federal capital

ISLAMABAD/ISTANBUL (AA) - Several people were injured after an explosion hit a religious place in Pakistan's capital Islamabad, a police official told Anadolu.

"Several people have been injured and shifted to hospital; further details will be shared shortly," said a spokesman for Islamabad police.

The explosion hit Imambargah, located in Shehzad Town area of Islamabad, local daily Dawn reported.

Video footage showed many people lying on the ground after the explosion.

Search and rescue operations have been launched while injured are being rushed to hospital.

​​​​​​​Police are yet to determine the cause of the explosion.

Imambargah is a religious place used by Shia Muslims.
