PARIS (AA) - Several skiers are feared buried under snow after an avalanche hit the French ski resort of Tignes on Tuesday morning, according to the local gendarmerie.
"According to witnesses, there are many people under the avalanche," a regional spokesman for the French Gendarmerie told the local Dauphine Libere daily.
The avalanche struck the Carline ski slope just after 10.00 a.m. (0800GMT).
A search and rescue operation is ongoing in the area.
On February 13, an avalanche left four skiers dead after a mass of snow swept them away in the resort of Tignes.
