ANKARA (AA) – A dry cargo vessel that suffered an engine failure in the Istanbul Strait while sailing from Russia to Bandirma, on the southern coast of Türkiye’s Sea of Marmara, was rescued and towed to safety on Monday.
The Directorate General of Coastal Safety said the 85-meter SEA ARIES experienced a machinery malfunction off the northern entrance of the strait.
Under the coordination of the Istanbul Vessel Traffic Services Center and with the assistance of a harbor pilot, rescue tugboats towed the vessel to the Ahirkapi Anchorage Area, where it was safely anchored, the authority added.
