Singer Jose Jose succumbs to cancer at 71

Among most successful Latin American singers in history, Jose Romulo Sosa Ortiz sold more than 120 million records

ANKARA (AA) - Famous Mexican cultural icon Jose Romulo Sosa Ortiz, 71, died on Saturday in South Florida in the U.S., according to media reports.

Ortiz, known by his stage name Jose Jose, was reportedly pronounce dead on Saturday after a two-year fight with pancreatic cancer, according to the Daily Mail.

Born in 1948 in Mexico, Jose Jose began his five-decade musical career in his early teens.

He released his first album, Jose Jose, in 1969 and his second, La Nave Del Olvido, in 1970.

Pero Te Extrano, Cuidado, Una Manana and Agua Con Sal are among his famous songs.

During his long career, he sold more than 120 million records and performed in 14 movies as an occasional actor.
