CAIRO (AA) – Six security personnel were killed and another three injured on Friday when an improvised explosive device (IED) went off near two security checkpoints in western Cairo, according to the Interior Ministry.
"The explosion occurred outside the Al-Salaam Mosque on Al-Haram Street near two security checkpoints," read a ministry statement.

In its own statement, the Health Ministry also confirmed the casualties.
