ISTANBUL (AA) – Slovenia on Monday welcomed the new draft resolution adopted by the UN General Assembly, calling for a comprehensive, just and lasting peace in Ukraine, with Russia and US voting against.

“Slovenia welcomes the adoption of the UN General Assembly resolutions on advancing a comprehensive, just and lasting peace in Ukraine,” the Foreign Ministry said on X.

Foreign Minister Tanja Fajon underscored the “importance” of the resolution at a time when the “principles of the UN Charter are increasingly disregarded.”

“It is a vote for end of the war and for peace, for international law and for the principles of sovereignty and territorial integrity enshrined in the UN Charter,” she said.

The UN General Assembly on Monday adopted a draft resolution calling for a just and lasting peace in Ukraine, with Russia and the US voting against it. The resolution passed with 93 votes in favor, 18 against, and 65 abstentions.

Proposed by Ukraine and European nations, it highlighted Russia's now over three-year war on Ukraine’s global impact and raised concerns over reports of North Korean troops fighting alongside Russia.

It urged an immediate cessation of hostilities, reaffirmed calls for Russia’s full withdrawal, and emphasized diplomatic efforts to prevent further escalation.
