MARDIN, Turkey (AA) – One Turkish soldier was martyred and two others injured in an attack by PKK terrorists in Turkey’s southeastern Mardin province, authorities said Friday.

In a statement, the province’s governorship said the terrorists attacked the soldiers while they were providing security at a road construction site in Nusaybin district.

The statement said the injured soldiers were receiving treatment at a hospital, without providing details on their condition.

A large-scale anti-terror operation was conducted to locate the terrorists.

In its more than 30-year terror campaign against Turkey, the PKK -- listed as a terrorist organization by Turkey, the U.S. and the European Union -- has been responsible for the deaths of some 40,000 people, including women, children and infants.
