ANKARA (AA) - A soldier, who was critically wounded during a PKK terror attack on a military base in southern Sirnak province on Monday, succumbed to his wounds at a hospital in Ankara on Wednesday, according to the military.
On Monday, the PKK carried out an attack on the military’s Gormec base, located in northwestern Sirnak after which the injured soldier was taken to the Gulhane Training and Research Hospital in the capital, the Turkish General Staff said in a statement.
The PKK -- listed as a terrorist organization by Turkey, the U.S. and the EU -- resumed its armed campaign against Turkey in July 2015.
Since then, it has been responsible for the deaths of some 1,200 Turkish security personnel and civilians, including a number of women and children.
