Soldier succumbs to wounds in east Turkey

Clashes with PKK terrorists take place in Agri province

AGRI, Turkey (AA) - A soldier, who was injured in a clash with the PKK terrorists in eastern Agri province on Monday, succumbed to his wounds at the hospital, security sources said.

A specialized sergeant was injured during the clashes that took place in Gungoren village of Dogubeyazit district.

The soldier was rushed to a hospital in Dogubeyazit; however, he later succumbed to his wounds.

The operation remains ongoing in the region.

The PKK -- listed as a terrorist organization by Turkey, the U.S. and the EU -- resumed its armed campaign against Turkey in July 2015.

Since then, it has been responsible for the deaths of more than 1,200 Turkish security personnel and civilians, including women and children.
