TRABZON, Turkey (AA) – A Turkish soldier succumbed to his injuries in Ankara Tuesday, after having been seriously injured during a recent attack by the terrorist PKK group in southeastern Turkey, officials said.
Infantryman Ismail Cil was injured last Friday in a clash with a group of PKK terrorists in Cizre, southeastern Sirnak province, following a rocket attack by the group on a tank battalion, according to an official statement released by the Trabzon Governor's Office.
Cil had been receiving treatment at Gulhane Military Medical Academy in Ankara, the statement said.
The PKK -- listed as a terrorist organization also by the U.S. and the EU -- resumed its 30-year armed campaign against the Turkish state in July 2015.
Since then, over 600 security personnel, including troops, police officers and village guards have been martyred and more than 7,000 PKK terrorists killed or neutralized in operations across Turkey and northern Iraq.
