South Korea, Japan to develop satellite navigation systems

2 nations mull collaboration with European nations, India, says South Korean Science Ministry

ISTANBUL (AA) - South Korea and Japan will cooperate in the development and operations of regional satellite navigation systems in East Asia, Seoul said on Tuesday.

The two countries signed a memorandum of cooperation to develop and operate their satellite systems in the region, the Seoul-based Yonhap News reported.

Officials from the two sides held their first technical working meeting in Seoul as they discussed the progress of Japan's Quasi-Zenith Satellite System and the Korean Positioning System.

The two sides discussed steps to facilitate inter-operations between their satellite systems.

The ministry also said the two nations may collaborate with European nations and India in the satellite navigation system operations.
