ISTANBUL (AA) - South Korean President Lee Jae Myung on Tuesday hosted Japanese Prime Minister Shigeru Ishibain the southeastern city of Busan, Yonhap news reported.

Ishiba arrived in South Korea for a two-day trip following Lee's visit to Japan last month. It is his first trip to the country since taking office last October.

Before the visit, South Korean National Security Adviser Wi Sung-lac said the agenda of the meeting will include demographic changes and regional revitalization, along with future-oriented cooperation in areas such as AI and hydrogen energy.

The two leaders are also expected to discuss trade related issues as Japan this month signed a trade deal with the US, while South Korea is negotiating details of its own framework agreement reached in July.

Ishiba announced his resignation earlier this month, and the ruling Liberal Democratic Party will elect a new leader on Oct. 4 to replace him.

Ishiba stepped down after his ruling coalition lost its majority in both houses of parliament amid voter anger over the rising cost of living.
