ANKARA (AA) – South Korea has successfully placed its latest multipurpose satellite, Arirang 7, into orbit, the Korea AeroSpace Administration (KASA) said Tuesday.

The Korea Multipurpose Satellite 7 lifted off aboard a Vega-C rocket from the Guiana Space Centre in French Guiana at 2:21 p.m. Monday (1721GMT), Yonhap News Agency reported, citing KASA.

The satellite separated from the launcher 44 minutes after liftoff, and its safe deployment was confirmed after it established contact with a Russian Antarctic ground station.

Arianespace, the France-based rocket operator, also confirmed the successful orbital insertion.

Developed by the Korea Aerospace Research Institute (KARI), Arirang 7 is equipped with an ultra-high-resolution electro-optical camera and an infrared sensor.

The satellite is expected to deliver high-quality imagery for environmental monitoring, disaster response and assessing urban heat island effects.
