S&P records best Q1 performance since 2019 with 10% gain

Dow Jones gains 5.6%, Nasdaq rises 9.1% in January-March period

ISTANBUL (AA) - The S&P 500 recorded its best first-quarter performance since 2019, while other stock exchanges also posted major gains in January-March period of this year.

The index rose also five points, or 0.11% to close Thursday at new record-high level of 5,254 and it saw a 10.2% increase for the three months ended March.

The Dow Jones added 47 points, or 0.12%, to finish the day at 39,807. The blue-chip index posted a 5.6% gain during the same period -- its biggest first-quarter record since 2021.

The Nasdaq declined 20 points, or 0.12%, to close last trading day of the month at 16,379. The tech-heavy index, however, saw a 9.1% gain in the third quarter.

The stock exchanges are closed Friday due to the observance of Good Friday.
