ISTANBUL (AA) - The special forces of the Somali National Intelligence and Security Agency (NISA) have killed five terrorists in Cumar Beere in the southern region of Lower Shabelle, Somalia.
Five "Khawaarij" militants were killed and their positions destroyed, the intelligence agency said in a statement on Tuesday.
The NISA forces have stepped up operations aimed at “eliminating the Khawaarij and preventing the plots they are planning against the Somali people,” it added.
Khawaarij is a term the Somali government uses to describe the al-Qaeda-affiliated al-Shabaab terrorist group.
Al-Shabaab, which has waged an insurgency against the Somali government for more than 16 years, regularly targets security forces, government officials, and civilians.
