ANKARA (AA) - In one of the largest maritime drug busts, the Sri Lanka navy seized 600 kilograms of heroin and crystal methamphetamine in the Indian Ocean, local media reported on Wednesday.
Security forces also arrested 11 people during the operation, and confiscated two fishing trawlers used to smuggle the drugs, local English news site News First reported.
The seizure took place on Tuesday during a joint operation involving the navy, the State Intelligence Service and the Police Narcotics Bureau in the country's southern territorial waters.
The seized drugs and the trawlers were brought to the Dikovita Fisheries Harbor in southern Sri Lanka.
Sri Lankan security forces have confiscated large quantities of illegal drugs as part of the government's ongoing campaign to combat drug trafficking in recent months.
