ISTANBUL (AA) - Syria’s Interior Ministry said early Monday it had launched an investigation into reports of a mass killing allegedly carried out by the YPG/SDF in the northeastern province of al-Hasakah.
Authorities have “immediately” begun the necessary inquiries to verify the information received, the ministry said in a statement, adding that it was monitoring the reports with concern and seriousness.
The move followed the circulation of reports on social media alleging a massacre in al-Hasakah attributed to YPG/SDF elements. The ministry said the investigation aims to determine the accuracy of the claims.
On Sunday, Syrian President Ahmad al-Sharaa announced a comprehensive Ceasefire and Full Integration Agreement between the government and the SDF, setting out measures to restore state authority in the country’s northeast.
The SDF is dominated by the YPG, the Syrian branch of the terrorist PKK.
