ISTANBUL (AA) - Syrian National Coalition's chief has resigned from his post, a statement said on Friday.

In the statement, the Istanbul-based opposition group, also known as Syrian Coalition of Revolutionary and Opposition Forces (SMDK), announced that Riad Seif stepped down due to health reasons.

Abdulrahman Mustafa, deputy head of the coalition, would replace him until an election for the new chief will be held, it added.

Seif had been elected as the sixth head of the group in May 2017.

The statement did not mention when the election for the post would be held.
