SUWAYDA, Syria (AA) - An armed Syrian opposition group on Tuesday claimed to have downed a regime warplane in the southwestern Suwayda province.
The Jaish Osoud al-Sharqiya group said via social media that it had downed a regime MiG-21 jet with the use of anti-aircraft guns.
According to the little-known group, the warplane crashed in the Wadi Mahmud region near the Jordanian border.
The group also said it had captured the pilot, who reportedly managed to bail out of the doomed aircraft.
The group’s assertions, however, have yet to be independently verified.
