ISTANBUL (AA) – Taiwan on Thursday said it has signed a “social welfare and social service cooperation” agreement with Israel.

Foreign Affairs Vice Minister Alexander Tah-ray Yui oversaw the virtual signing of the pact by Taiwan’s office in Tel Aviv and the Israeli office in Taipei on Wednesday, the Taiwanese Foreign Ministry said in a statement.

“The progressive pact allows Taiwan and Israel to expand related exchanges benefiting the people of both sides,” the ministry said.

Israel and Taiwan do not have formal diplomatic relations but have representative offices in their respective capitals.

They have signed at least 30 such cooperation pacts over the years, with Wednesday’s being the fifth since 2020.
