ISTANBUL (AA) – A Taiwanese F-16V fighter jet has gone missing after taking a flight for routine training on Tuesday.
Self-ruled Taiwan’s Air Force said in a statement to official Taiwan News that the jet went missing over the sea off western Taiwan in the afternoon.
Search and rescue operations have been launched, it added.
After 30 minutes of its flight from the Chiayi Air Base in southern Taiwan, the jet disappeared from the radar.
Meanwhile, Taiwan’s National Rescue Command Center said native residents of the southwestern Chiayi city reportedly saw a jet crash into the sea near Aogu Wetland in Dongshi Township.
