Taliban kill 22 Afghan security force in Farah province

Province witnesses rise in deadly insurgent attacks

KABUL, Afghanistan (AA) - At least 22 Afghan security forces were killed and five wounded in restive Farah province bordering Iran, an official confirmed on Monday.

Shah Mehmood, deputy chairman for the provincial council, told Anadolu Agency a convoy of the security forces came under Taliban attack in the Joyen district of the province on Sunday evening.

Farah has seen a rise in deadly assaults on the Afghan forces recently.

Officials in Farah blame Iran for supporting the Taliban insurgents, a charge rejected by Tehran.
