NEW YORK (AA) - Teenage climate change activist Greta Thunberg reached New York in 15 days after sailing across the Atlantic on Wednesday morning.
The 16-year-old Swedish activist travelled from the English coastline on a zero-carbon yacht with solar panels and underwater turbines to generate electricity.
"Land!! The lights of Long Island and New York City ahead," Thunberg tweeted after seeing the city lights of New York early morning.
The young activist sailed to attend the UN summit on climate action on Sept. 23 refusing to fly due to carbon emissions caused by planes.
The young environmentalist launched her protest outside Sweden's parliament last year and has continued her activism in Sweden and Europe.
The activist became the symbol of student action against climate change in Europe with "Fridays For Future" movement protesting the lack of effective climate legislation on a governmental level.
