ISTANBUL (AA) - A teenager armed with a knife attacked students and a teacher at a university dormitory in Russia, injuring seven people including two police officers, state news agency TASS reported on Saturday.
The suspect entered the dormitory of a medical university in the city of Ufa, capital of Republic of Bashkortostan, and stabbed four students and a teacher. Police personnel later detained the teenager, who also injured himself while resisting arrest.
Those injured in the attack are in stable condition. Two police officers also suffered stab wounds during the suspect's detention, but are out of danger.
Interior Ministry spokesperson Irina Volk said the attacker had been taken into custody and is currently at a medical facility, where his condition is described as serious.
The Bashkortostan prosecutor’s office said it was establishing the circumstances surrounding the incident.
A criminal case was opened on charges of attempted murder of two or more persons and an attempt on the life of a law enforcement officer.
The motive behind the attack was not immediately clear.
