HAKKARI, Turkey (AA) – Four Turkish soldiers were wounded Saturday in a PKK attack on a military base area in Hakkari province, a security source said.
The source, speaking on condition of anonymity due to restrictions on talking to the media, said PKK members carried out an attack on Derecik Mamras Hill Military Base in Semdinli district.
The wounded soldiers were taken to Hakkari state hospital, the source added.
Elsewhere, 700 kilograms of explosives planted by PKK members on the Diyarbakir-Bingol road were found and defused by security forces, Diyarbakir governorate said.
According to a statement, the explosives, which had been strengthened with ammonium nitrate, were defused by an ordnance disposal team.
The PKK -- listed as a terrorist organization by Turkey, the U.S. and EU -- resumed its decades-old armed campaign in July last year, since when more than 600 security personnel have been martyred and around 7,000 PKK terrorists killed.
