ISTANBUL (AA) - Early voting for Thailand’s parliamentary elections began at 8 am local time (0100GMT) on Sunday.
The country has 2 million eligible voters -- those unable to vote on the official polling day of Feb. 8 -- to take part in the advance voting.
The Election Commission said that 2.41 million people registered for advance voting, which is set to be concluded at 5 pm (1000GMT), according to the Bangkok Post.
Overall, Thailand has 52.92 million registered eligible voters.
Authorities set up 424 polling stations for voters casting ballots outside their constituencies and 421 stations for those voting early within their own constituencies in Bangkok and other provinces.
An additional 22 polling stations across 18 provinces were designated for elderly voters and people with disabilities.
Bangkok had the highest number of advance voting registrants, totaling 844,672.
More than 90 candidates from 57 political parties are competing for 500 seats of the House of Representatives in the Feb. 8 elections.
