ISTANBUL (AA) - Time magazine has named “the Architects of AI” as its 2025 Person of the Year, the weekly publication announced Thursday.

"For delivering the age of thinking machines, for wowing and worrying humanity, for transforming the present and transcending the possible, the Architects of AI are TIME's 2025 Person of the Year," the magazine said on US social media company X.

This year, the designation honors individuals involved in building artificial intelligence, including Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang, Meta founder and CEO Mark Zuckerberg and billionaire Elon Musk, who owns artificial intelligence company xAI.

Cover illustrations shared by the magazine featured several pioneers in AI technology development.

The covers, inspired by Charles Clyde Ebbets' famous 1932 photograph Lunch atop a Skyscraper, featured Zuckerberg, Advanced Micro Devices CEO Lisa Su, Musk, Huang, OpenAI CEO Sam Altman, DeepMind Technologies CEO Demis Hassabis, Anthropic AI company CEO Dario Amodei and Fei-Fei Li, known as the "godmother" of AI for her pioneering work in the field.

The publication called 2025 "the year when artificial intelligence's full potential roared into view, and when it became clear that there will be no turning back."

Person of the Year is an annual issue of the news magazine featuring a person, group, idea or object that "for better or for worse ... has done the most to influence the events of the year." The tradition began in 1927.

The magazine selected US President Donald Trump in 2024, singer Taylor Swift in 2023 and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and The Spirit of Ukraine in 2022.
