ISTANBUL (AA) - A lower House Japanese lawmaker said Friday that Tokyo and Taipei must cooperate on economic and maritime security, according to state-run Focus Taiwan.
Ruling Liberal Democratic Party's youth division head Yasutaka Nakasone told reporters during a visit to Taipei that the global situation is complex and challenging.
The politician previously met Taiwan's leader William Lai Ching-te and regional security official Joseph Wu, alongside a delegation he is leading.
Nakasone said the delegation discussed declining birthrates and aging population in both countries, security issues such as information, cognitive warfare and ways to strengthen collaboration between countries as well as how to include the US and South Korea.
He said economic and maritime security remains crucial for Taiwan and Japan as both are island nations, without detailing much on the discussions.
Nakasone's five-day visit to Taiwan is scheduled to end Saturday.
