WASHINGTON (AA) - US President Donald Trump said Thursday that the federal government is issuing new guidance to protect the right to prayer in public schools.
"Today, I'm also pleased to announce that the Department of Education is officially issuing its new guidance to protect the right to prayer in our public schools," Trump said at the 74th annual national prayer breakfast.
Trump called the move a "big deal."
The announcement underscores the administration’s continued emphasis on religious liberty as part of its broader education and cultural agenda.
Trump predicted that Democrats will sue the administration following the announcement.
"But we'll win it. They've sued me for everything. I'm the most sued human being in history. I got impeached twice over nothing," he added.
The issue of prayer in US public schools has been a contentious issue for decades. Opponents say organized prayer violates the Constitution’s separation of church and state, while proponents point to what they call the US’ “Judeo-Christian society,” despite a growing diversity of faiths as well as non-believers in society.
