WASHINGTON (AA) — US President Donald Trump on Friday renewed his call to end the Senate filibuster as lawmakers prepared to vote on a revamped bill aimed at reopening the government after the longest shutdown in US history.
“Just say NO (Nuclear Option!). TERMINATE THE FILIBUSTER!” Trump wrote on his Truth Social platform, urging Senate Republicans to eliminate the 60-vote threshold that allows the minority party to block legislation.
The Senate is scheduled to vote later Friday on a proposal that would temporarily fund the government and advance three appropriations bills.
The measure also includes a pledge for a future vote to extend Affordable Care Act subsidies set to expire later this year, according to The Washington Post.
