Trump signs executive order on 'great' reciprocal tariffs

'This should have been done years ago,' says president

WASHINGTON (AA) - US President Donald Trump signed an executive order Thursday that rolls out reciprocal tariffs that will be imposed on US trading partners in a bid to match duties imposed on American exports.

Addressing reporters in the Oval Office, Trump said his order would seek to address VAT taxes and non-monetary tariffs imposed by foreign countries on US goods, but said goods made in the US would be exempt from his order, whose economic penalties would be imposed on top of other duties he has already rolled out.

"This should have been done years ago," he said. "Tariffs are good, tariffs are great actually.”
