WASHINGTON (AA) - US President Donald Trump, along with first lady Melania Trump, visited the state of Texas to survey the damage from last week’s flash floods that killed at least 120 people.
"The first lady and I are here in Texas to express the love and support and the anguish of our entire nation in the aftermath of this really horrific and deadly flood," Trump said at a meeting with first responders and officials of the Guadalupe River floods near Kerrville.
He said the Coast Guard Rescue crew saved 169 children at Camp Mystic, a Christian girls’ camp near Hunt in western Kerr County.
"The search for the missing is continuing," he said, adding his administration is doing "everything in its power" to help Texas.
The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) deployed multiple emergency response units, said Trump.
"We're also taking historic action to ensure that such a nightmare never happens again," he added.
Criticism has mounted about the administration’s handling of the flooding in Texas, citing efforts to slash funding for disaster response, climate and weather agencies.
